Victorian Football has been hit with not one, but multiple copyright issues this week.
You’re the Voice, don’t use mine
Disappointingly for fans, multiple broadcasts were removed from YouTube this round after copyright strikes were made on the broadcasts.
It appears that background music played over the Stadium’s PA systems were picked up by commentary microphones and caused the copyright strikes.
Culprits included a Johnny Farnham track which had the Melbourne Knight’s thrilling 3-3 draw with Avondale removed, and an ACDC track which had Dandenong Thunder’s 2-0 loss to Heidelberg struck from the platform.

Vietnamese Premier League
As described by The NPL Victoria Pod though, these weren’t the most unusual copyright issues over the weekend.
Bulleen’s 2-1 win over Eastern Lions managed to find itself streamed on a Vietnamese platform, complete with Vietnamese commentary and advertising.
It is worth noting that Bulleen play in the freshly branded VPL1, however despite the clear copyright violation, it appears major platforms gave the pirate broadcasters a pass, perhaps confusing the Victorian Premier League to be the Vietnamese Premier League.
TBG wasn’t aware that Eastern Lions were in fact the ‘Far Eastern Lions’, but wishes both teams all the best in the return leg in Hanoi.
Clutch and YouTube
It must be noted that these issues did not plague the league last season when broadcasts were exclusive to the Clutch platform.
The collapse of the streamer in the preseason saw the NPL Victoria revert to YouTube for its broadcasts, generally to the delight of fans who have praised the platform’s reliability and accessibility.
Early indications show a significant number of people picking up the streams too, which as many as 16k views on single matches and over 60k views for each round.
These copyright issues however present a (hopefully) minor issue for the new arrangement and it is hoped broadcasts are not removed for the same reasons in the future.
