Newcastle’s 8-0 antihalation sets up dramatic final ALW round

Newcastle have emphatically defeated Adelaide 8-0 to keep themselves in the finals race. A timely run of form has propelled them into the top six but with just a few games to go they will be waiting on results around the grounds to find out their final placing.

Western Sydney require just a single point to secure their finals spot, and face a Wellington Phoenix side who have been eliminated from the Championship. If Melbourne Victory are also able to secure at least a point Newcastle will be eliminated from the finals.

Unlike the Wanderers thought the Victory face a much tougher challenge. They will be playing Sydney FC who currently sit on the top of the table and themselves require a win to secure the ALW Premiership. Melbourne City also remain in contention for the top place but face an already eliminated Perth away.

Sydney could have secured the Premiership earlier, however a surprise loss to Canberra threw a spanner in the works. The embattled club upset the visitors in what could prove to be their final ever home game. Canberra, shrouded by ownership issues will play potentially their last ever ALW game against Brisbane away this weekend.

However with silverware on the line, all eyes will be on the Sydney vs Victory clash for what is sure to be one of the most dramatic conclusions to n ALW Home and Away season ever!
